Melissa Ohden Biography

Melissa is a survivor of a saline infusion abortion that went wrong in 1977. Despite early fears about Melissa's future after surviving a botched abortion attempt when she was seven months pregnant, she has not only survived but flourished. She has worked in the sectors of drug addiction, mental health, domestic violence and sexual assault therapy, and child welfare with a Master's Degree in Social Work. Melissa was a Feminists for Life College Outreach Speaker and is a past Patron of Real Choices Australia. She has testified before the House of Representatives and Senate of the United States of America, as well as the Australian Parliament. Melissa is on the Board of Directors of the Vitae Foundation, a national organization that promotes a culture of life via the use of media. Melissa created The Abortion Survivors Network in 2012. (ASN). ASN's mission is to educate the world about failed abortions and survivors while also offering emotional, mental, and spiritual support to those who have had a failed abortion. Melissa has communicated with approximately 210 survivors since the start of ASN. Melissa has been on several television and radio shows. Melissa's tale, and her life, are so much more than a story of survival after years of seeking for her birth family and asking forgiveness for the decision to take her life. It demonstrates how abortion has an intergenerational influence on all of our lives. It's also a monument to the beauty of God's grace in our lives, the strength of love, and the transformative power of forgiveness, as well as in obeying God's call for your life.
