Melissa M. Proctor Biography

The Atlanta Hawks & State Farm Arena's Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer is Melissa McGhie Proctor. Proctor is responsible for managing the club's marketing, Hawks Studios, live experience, production, brand merchandise, creative services, corporate social responsibility, brand communications, and basketball development departments on a daily basis in this capacity. She also collaborates closely with senior leadership to offer the business strategy, and she was the architect of the celebrated 2020-2021 MLK Nike City Edition Uniform plan. In June 2014, when she was appointed vice president of brand strategy, Proctor joined the company. In her previous position, she was in charge of creating marketing and business plans that fueled the organization's long-term strategy. She has been a key player for the Hawks during her time there, leading executive communication and internal corporate staff initiatives. Proctor started her career at the Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. She has worked with Cartoon Network, Turner Media Group, and Turner Entertainment Networks (including TNT, TBS, Turner Classic Movies (TCM), truTV, and Peachtree TV) in brand development and strategy roles. She also contributed to the development of Turner's UK office's first Corporate Social Responsibility section. Her accomplishments include driving corporate culture initiatives to promote employee involvement, cooperation, and creativity, as well as handling the naming and identity for the rebranding of Court TV as truTV. Since she was a senior in high school, Proctor has worked for the NBA. She started out as a ball lady for the Miami Heat and then went back to the franchise to work in basketball operations. Proctor has received recognition for her professional accomplishments from several publications and organizations during her career. She has received the Leaders and Aspire Academy's Leaders Under 40 Award, was listed among Atlanta Magazine's 2018 list of Women Making a Mark, and most recently was chosen to be a member of the Sports Business Journal/2020 Daily's class of Forty Under 40 and a 2021 ADWEEK Top CMO Award Winner. She has also received recognition through the Leaders and Aspire Academy's Leaders Under 40 Award. Author Proctor published her debut book, From Ball Girl to CMO, in 2020. Proctor serves on the boards of 48 in 48, The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, The High Museum of Art, and The Children's Museum of Atlanta. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor's in communication and from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design at The London Institute with a master's in design studies/branding. She currently resides in Atlanta despite being a native of Miami, Florida.
