Melanie Johnston-Hollitt (née Johnston; 8 September 1974) is an Australian astrophysicist and educator. She has chipped away at the plan, development, and global administration of a few radio telescopes including the Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR), the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), and the up and coming Square Kilometer Array (SKA). She is the overseer of the Murchison Widefield Array and a teacher at the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy at Curtin University and the International Center for Radio Astronomy Research. Johnston-Hollitt was conceived on 8 September 1974 in Darwin, Australia.[citation needed] She was conceived instantly before Cyclone Tracy pulverized the city after which she and her mom were cleared to Brisbane on December 29, 1974, on the way to Townsville. During her initial life, she lived in different pieces of Queensland before her family got back to Darwin in 1979. In 1986 her family moved to Adelaide where she finished secondary school. Johnston-Hollitt went to the University of Adelaide, where she graduated with two degrees in hypothetical and trial material science and unadulterated arithmetic. She additionally finished a BSc with distinction in astronomy under the management of Roger Clay, and a doctorate in radio cosmology mutually with the University of Adelaide and the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility under the oversight of Ron Ekers and Richard Hunstead.
