Matt James Biography

Matt James has established himself as a television personality and former college athlete and social activist and entrepreneur. His historic selection as the first Black male lead on ABC’s The Bachelor (Season 25) in 2021 created essential dialogues about diversity and equality in traditional media.

During his time at Wake Forest University James graduated with a degree in Economics while playing as a wide receiver for the Demon Deacons from 2011–2014. His post-university path included professional football opportunities when he received mini-camp invitations from both the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints. After his athletic career he moved to commercial real estate in New York City where he worked at CBRE Group and previously at PNC Bank in Pittsburgh.

Through his philanthropic work Matt established ABC Food Tours as a New York-based nonprofit organization which provides underserved youth with diverse cultural and nutritional and wellness experiences. Through his entrepreneurial ventures Matt supports crypto technology by co-founding Encrypted Energy and uses blockchain for Crypto for Black Economic Empowerment and invests in NFTs and clean-energy crypto mining operations.

The reality TV show did not limit Matt's media presence since he appeared on Dancing with the Stars (Season 30) and wrote First Impressions: Off-Screen Conversations with a Bachelor on Race, Family, and Forgiveness which explores racial issues and dating experiences in America.

Through his platform Matt uses his fitness passion and marathon running (NYC Marathon: 2022, 2023) to advocate for social change and racial justice and financial literacy.
