Sir Bob Geldof, best known for organizing the massive Live Aid spectacle and political activity on behalf of Africa, was the founder of the hugely regarded pop group The Boom Town Rats and has had a 25-year singing/songwriting career.
From 1984 through 1986, as the driving force and leader of Band Aid, Live Aid, and Sport Aid, Geldof earned more than $120 million for African famine assistance and planned simultaneous performances in London and Philadelphia to raise �50 million. He remains chairman of the Band Aid Trust.
