Marion Nestle is an American nutritionist and public health advocate, widely recognized for her critical analyses of the food industry’s influence on health policy. Born in New York City, but raised in Los Angeles, she earned a B.A. in bacteriology, a Master’s of Public Health, and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of California, Berkeley. She is the Paulette Goddard Professor Emerita of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University, where she taught from 1988 to 2017. Nestle also holds appointments as a visiting professor at Cornell University and a scholar at Berkeley.

Before academia, she served as a senior nutrition policy advisor in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and edited the 1988 Surgeon General’s Report on Nutrition and Health.
