Mac King Biography

Mac King was born on December 2, 1959, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Because both of his grandfathers, Pax King and Elwood Huffman, were amateur magicians, Mac grew fascinated by magic as a child. Elwood would perform a trick for Mac, and when Mac inquired about how he did it, Elwood would point to his library of magic books and instruct Mac to go through all of the volumes for instructions on how to execute that specific trick. At the local library, King submerged himself even further in magic literature. Young Mac would put on a show for his family and friends whenever he could, but his first paid performance was at a birthday celebration for one of the Herbert children when he was ten years old. Mac received a National Merit Scholarship to attend Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Mac took his performance on the road after graduating with Highest Honors in 1981 with a double degree (Anthropology and Magic), eventually headlining all of America's top comedy clubs. Mac married Jennifer Sils in 1985. She was a volunteer from one of his programs' crowd. Mac's spectacular visual style of magic and unusual approach to humor attracted the attention of the producers of all the late-80s stand-up comedy TV series including An Evening at the IMPROV and Comic Strip Live after he moved to Los Angeles in 1987. In Spain, Japan, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, England, Argentina, Holland, Finland, Canada, Chile, and Portugal, he has performed live and on television. Mac received a showcase in Los Angeles for the creators of NBC-The TV's World's Greatest Magic programs. Mac was recruited for six additional network specials after the producers saw him on that episode. As a result, he was invited to appear on Penn and Teller's Sin City Spectacular. Mac debuted on the new syndicated Donny and Marie Show at the end of 1999 when he did his Amazing Goldfish Trick. King plays at over 60 exclusive business events each year, in addition to his TV specials and Harrah's appearances. King and Jennifer relocated from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in early 1997. Spellbound at Harrah's, The Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular at The Flamingo Hilton, and Splash! at the Riviera are just a few of Mac's Vegas appearances. The website Magic in a Minute, which King and his brother Bill established for aspiring magicians, was created by King and his brother Bill. With movies, a magic store, and even a syndicated comic strip, the site teaches youngsters the principles of magic.
