Kyle Coon Biography

Kyle Coon represents both blind American athletic excellence and motivational speaking through his life journey which showcases his unbreakable spirit and unwavering dedication to excellence. The birthplace of Kyle Coon was Jacksonville Florida where he lost his sight at age six because of bilateral sporadic retinoblastoma eye cancer. He has established himself as an adaptive sports leader through his work in paratriathlon despite facing the obstacle of blindness.

Kyle Coon received his degree in Communication from the University of Central Florida in 2013 before he started participating in endurance sports. The year 2018 marked a historic moment for Kyle when he became the first blind athlete to finish an IRONMAN-branded triathlon under the 11-hour mark. In 2018 he joined the first all-blind tandem cycling team which finished the Race Across America by covering 3,000 miles in seven days.  

Kyle achieved his athletic peak by becoming a United States Paralympic representative at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games where he secured a fifth position in the paratriathlon competition. He has secured multiple World Triathlon Para Series medals including gold silver and bronze while winning the 2022 USA Paratriathlon National Championship title.  

Kyle dedicates his life to helping others with disabilities through his athletic pursuits. As Program and SafeSport Coordinator for the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes Kyle works to organize sports and recreational activities for blind and visually impaired people.  

Kyle resides in Colorado Springs Colorado where he trains at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center to qualify for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. Through his motivational speaking he travels the world to share his experiences while teaching people to break through challenges and achieve unlimited potential.
