Khalid Donnel Robinson, better known by his stage name Khalid, is a singer and songwriter from the United States. Right Hand Music Group and RCA Records are his record labels. His debut single, Location, was released in July 2016 and reached number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 list. The Recording Industry Association of America later certified it quadruple platinum (RIAA). On March 3, 2017, his debut studio album, American Teen, was released. His duet with singer Normani, Love Lies, which was recorded for the Love, Simon film soundtrack, hit the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018. On March 24, 2017, Khalid contributed uncredited vocals to Kendrick Lamar's single The Heart Part 4, which was released. On April 28, 2017, Logic released the track 1-800-273-8255, which featured Khalid and Alessia Cara and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Khalid's highest-charting hit to date. Khalid's 21-city Location Tour in January–February 2017 sold out every venue, including the 1,500-capacity Tricky Falls in El Paso. His debut studio album, American Teen, was released on March 3, 2017, following the conclusion of the tour. At the 2018 Grammy Awards, the album earned critical acclaim and nominations for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best R&B Song (for Location). The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album platinum on October 24, 2017, after it sold over 1,000,000 pure sales and album-equivalent units. Khalid got the VMA Award for Best New Artist in 2017. Khalid made his television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 15, 2017, performing Location with The Roots. On the ABC drama series Grey's Anatomy, his song Angels was featured in the episode Don't Stop Me Now, which aired on April 27, 2017. El Paso Mayor Dee Margo Friday awarded R&B artist Khalid with the key to the city of El Paso in September 2018. The Ways, a collaboration between Khalid and rapper Swae Lee, was used in the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther. The song reached number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 on February 23, 2018. On Lorde's Homemade Dynamite remix, he worked alongside Lorde, SZA, and Post Malone in 2017. In 2018, he released Love Lies, a duet with singer Normani that was recorded for the Love, Simon film soundtrack and hit the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Each artist's first number one on the US Pop Songs list was Love Lies, which also placed in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End chart. On the song Lovely, he teamed with Billie Eilish, and it was sampled many times on rapper Juice WRLD's first album. Benny Blanco's first single Eastside featured him alongside Halsey in July 2018. After a record 30-week rise, the song charted in the Billboard Hot 100's top ten and hit number one on the US Pop Songs chart. On September 14, the first day of two local performances, he released a song called Better. The song reached number one on the Rhythmic Songs airplay chart and was in the top five on pop radio. On October 19, 2018, Khalid released an EP called Suncity through RCA Records. On the Billboard 200, the EP debuted at number eight. Saturday Nights, a song from the album, was subsequently remixed with country musician Kane Brown. Khalid released the track Talk in February 2019, and on March 9, 2019, he performed Talk and Better on Saturday Night Live. In April 2019, he launched his album Free Spirit, which was accompanied by a short film.
