Kevin grew up in poverty and went to school in a variety of cities throughout the United States. As he observed education across the country, he gathered powerful experiences that continue to influence his conversations and work with educators.

He taught art K-12 in public schools for 13 years and led creative adventure camps for kids of all ages for 17 years. He was awarded the Making IT Happen Award in 1991, which is an internationally recognised awards programme for educators and leaders in the field of educational technology integration in K-12 schools.
