Kenneth Rogoff is an American economist, professor, and chess grandmaster. He is the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. Hailing from Rochester, New York, Rogoff earned a B.A. and M.A. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from MIT. His research focuses on international economics, debt, and monetary policy.
Co-author of the influential book “This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly” (2009) with Carmen Reinhart, he analyzed financial crises across history. Rogoff served as Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund (2001–2003) and advised the Federal Reserve and the World Bank. His 2016 book, “The Curse of Cash”, advocates for phasing out high-denomination currency to combat crime.
