Kenneth Earl Wilber II (born January 31, 1949 in Oklahoma City, USA) is a philosopher and psychological theorist from the United States. His work is primarily concerned with developing an integral theory of consciousness in which the insights of mysticism, postmodernism, science, and systems theory are combined to form a coherent picture of the cosmos. Wilber states in Kosmic Consciousness that he considers himself a storyteller and a mapmaker; his stories address universal questions, and his maps integrate various Kosmic perspectives. He was once a major proponent of the transpersonal school of psychology, but he has since distanced himself from it. Wilber established the Integral Institute in 1998 as a think tank dedicated to studying science and society issues holistically. He was a forerunner in the evolution of Integral psychology and Integral spirituality. In the January 1997 issue of the German newspaper Die Welt, a reviewer referred to Wilber as "the foremost thinker in the field of consciousness evolution." He is the most translated academic author in the United States, according to Frank Visser. He has been dubbed the "Einstein of Consciousness," and he is expected to do for consciousness what Freud did for psychology. Ken currently resides in Denver, CO, where he leads the Integral Institute, a non-profit organisation dedicated to spreading the Integral Vision through personal training, seminars, and multimedia products.
