Kelly Wallace Biography

Since January 2007, Kelly Wallace has worked as a CBS News correspondent in New York. Her national-issue reports have appeared on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, The Early Show, and CBSNews.com. She also fills in as a weekend evening news anchor and has anchored several breaking news stories, including John McCain's announcement of Sarah Palin as his running mate. Wallace previously worked for CNN as a correspondent and anchor from 1999 to 2006. She worked as a national correspondent for American Morning from 2004 to 2006, and she also filled in as a substitute anchor. She covered Senator John Kerry's presidential campaign in 2004 and worked as a reporter on the floor of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Wallace also hosted Inside Politics Sunday, a one-hour live political programme on the cable channel. Prior to that, she worked as an international correspondent for CNN (2002-03), where she covered events in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza before, during, and after the US invasion of Iraq. Wallace previously worked in Washington, D.C., as CNN's White House correspondent (1999-2002), covering the Clinton administration's final year and the first two years of the Bush administration, which included the contested 2000 presidential election. She worked as a State Department reporter/producer for FOX News Channel before joining CNN (1999). Wallace began her broadcasting career at KRQE-TV, a CBS affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico (1996-98). Prior to that, she worked for CNN as an assignment editor, as well as an off-air reporter and producer for the cable channel's weekend political talk shows (1990-96). Wallace was a member of CNN's coverage teams that won a George Foster Peabody Award for Hurricane Katrina coverage in 2006 and a Columbia University-Alfred I. DuPont Award for tsunami coverage in Southeast Asia in 2006. Wallace also contributes to PLUM, a pregnancy and parenting magazine, in addition to her work for CBS News. She's written a cover storey about Michelle Obama, a piece about the scientific benefits of the "mommy brain," and an analysis of the 2008 presidential candidates' positions on family issues. Wallace was born in the borough of Brooklyn. In 1987, she received a magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School with a bachelor of sciences degree in economics. Her husband and two daughters live in New York City with her.
