Joseph W. DeCarlo Biography

He is the managing partner of JD Property Management, Inc. in Costa Mesa and a licenced Real Estate Broker in California and New York. He earned his MBA from Syracuse University. Joe oversees over 3,000 residential units and 12 million square feet of retail property as general manager. Joe also serves on the National Faculty of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and has been an effective alternative real estate teacher at Coastline Community College since 1977. Joe has served as an IREM Chapter President, National Chairman Of the committee, as well as receiver of the renowned IREM National Lum Award for contributing significantly to the property maintenance profession. He is the current leader of the Southern California Section of Counselors of Real Estate, as well as a former president of the Orange County Commercial Association of Realtors and indeed the Coastline College Foundation. He continues to serve on the boards of the Coastline College Foundation, the L.A. Mental Health Affiliation, and Community Housing Assets, all of which are non-profit organisations. Coastline Community College endowed a honours degree on him in acknowledgement of his significant contribution to the society. Joe was recently listed as the finalist for the 2003 Ernst & Young Businessman of the Year® award. Mr. DeCarlo is the writer of numerous textbooks, such as the popular Property Management in California, which is now in its tenth edition which is used by over forty colleges, Real Estate: Adventures, Principles, and Practices, an academic novel on real estate, and Essential Facts: Real Estate Management, posted by Boston-based Warren, Gorham & Lamont, as well as the released recently national property management text, Property Management, posted by Prentice Hall. Joe owns more than 150 units and talks not only as a teacher and property investment professional, but also as a shareholder.
