José D. Fernández is a Cuban-American Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Miami Marlins (MLB). He bats and throws with his right hand. In the 2013 season, he made his MLB debut. Fernández grew up in Santa Clara, Cuba, and attempted to flee three times before finally succeeding in 2008.
He attended Braulio Alonso High School in Tampa, Florida, and was drafted in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Marlins. On April 7, 2013, Fernández made his Major League Baseball debut with the Marlins.
