John J. Mearsheimer is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. He is also the co-director of the Program on International Security Policy. He graduated from West Point in 1970 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force for five years.
In 1975, he began graduate studies in political science at Cornell University. In 1980, he got his Ph.D. From 1979 to 1980, he was a research fellow at the Brookings Institution, and from 1980 to 1982, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University's Center for International Affairs.
