Joel Mokyr is a renowned American-Israeli economic historian and the Robert H. Strotz Professor of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University, where he holds joint appointments in economics and history. He is also affiliated with Tel Aviv University's Eitan Berglas School of Economics. Mokyr earned his B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his Ph.D. from Yale University.
His research focuses on the economic history of Europe, the intellectual and cultural roots of technological progress, the growth of "useful knowledge," and the origins of sustained modern economic growth, particularly during the Industrial Revolution.
