After ages of struggling as a professional musician and comedy performer, actor Joe Pesci was catapulted into the spotlight with his Oscar-nominated performance in director Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull, featuring Oscar winner Robert De Niro. The film was the first of many successful collaborations between Pesci, De Niro, and Scorses.Though he settled into a few forgettable roles after his initial success, Pesci re-emerged afterwards in the decade with many memorable performances, beginning with his comic turn as mob accountant-turned-witness state's Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon 2, a role he reenacted for the franchise's third and fourth instalments. His depiction of an uncontrollably violent mob boss rising through the ranks in Martin Scorsese's magnificent crime saga Goodfellas, however, became his defining role. Pesci was so good that he surpassed De Niro in critical acclaim and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Following that, Pesci rose above a large ensemble cast to play alleged mass murder conspirator David Ferrie in Oliver Stone's JFK, which he accompanied with a rare starring role in My Cousin Vinny. Following one more collaboration with De Niro and Scorsese in Casino, he appeared in Gone Fishin' and 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag before unexpectedly retiring from acting in 1999 to focus on his music. With a cameo in Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd in 2006 and a leading role in Love Ranch in 2010, Pesci was poised to re-establish himself in Hollywood.In addition to his film career, Pesci is one of the producers of the 2004 Broadway musical Jersey Boys. The tune is based on Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' lives. Pesci was present during the group's formation as a young man and is a mate of Tommy Devito. Pesci is a pivotal character in the musical, introducing DeVito and Valli to Bob Gaudio, the singer/songwriter who would go on to become a seminal Seasons' member
