She is a Senior Member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society as well as a Fellow Life Member of SWE. Tietjen's name appears in Who's Who in Engineering, Who's Who in Engineering and Science, and Who's Who in Technology. Tietjen has worked for Stone & Webster Management Consultants, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Hagler Bailly Consulting, Webster Management Consultant, Duke Power Company, Coal Division, and Mobil Oil Corporation's Minning. She earned a B.S. in Applied Maths (minor in Electrical Engineering) from the University of Virginia (Tau Beta Pi, Virginia Alpha) and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a Colorado-licensed qualified engineer.
