Jill S. Tietjen, P.E. is an electrical engineer, speaker, and author. Her published novels include the Setting the Record Straight series (co-authored with Betty Reynolds), which examines the history of women's achievements in accounting, engineering, & professional achievement, as well as Keys to Engineering Success, an introduction to engineering textbook (for freshman students). Evolving Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers, a new book, features her on both the cover and inside. She is the Chief Executive officer of Technically Speaking, a national consulting firm specializing in enhancing opportunities for women, and one of the top historians in the country on scientific and technical women. Tietjen is a frequent keynote speaker at engineering, science, and women's conferences, and she is frequently featured in the media. She also frequently provides as an expert witness before public utility commissions and many other government agencies. The new book Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America (Collins), co-authored with Charlotte S. Waisman, is the pinnacle of Tietjen's different backgrounds. It is a one-of-a-kind illustrated timeline that highlights the diversified, exciting, and often underappreciated accomplishments of American women since the 1500s. The over 850 women featured in the book were chosen from a pool of 3,000 candidates and range from artists and writers to doctors, scientists, and activists of all backgrounds and philosophies. Her Story is an informational and fascinating look at female pioneers, trailblazers, as well as leaders that will attract readers everywhere. It is based on a successful traveling showcase that has gained incredible assistance from scholars, corporations, and national women's organizations. Since 2005, the HerStory timeline has been showcased to the joy of captive audiences in museums, corporate offices, as well as municipal buildings across the country. Tietjen can be scheduled independently or in conjunction with Waisman. Tietjen frequently talks on topics such as women in engineering, historical women in science and engineering, and leadership. She is also a member of the Tucker, Georgia-based Georgia Transmission Corporation's Board of Directors. Tietjen is a member of ABET, Inc.'s Engineering Accreditation Commission and was the Western Zone Vice Chairman of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Assessing. She is a Senior Member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society as well as a Fellow Life Member of SWE. Tietjen's name appears in Who's Who in Engineering, Who's Who in Engineering and Science, and Who's Who in Technology. Tietjen has worked for Stone & Webster Management Consultants, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Hagler Bailly Consulting, Webster Management Consultant, Duke Power Company, Coal Division, and Mobil Oil Corporation's Minning. She earned a B.S. in Applied Maths (minor in Electrical Engineering) from the University of Virginia (Tau Beta Pi, Virginia Alpha) and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a Colorado-licensed qualified engineer.
