Jawed Karim is a Bangladeshi-German-American computer scientist and Internet entrepreneur. He co-founded YouTube and was the first person to submit a video to the platform. As of January 2020, the first video, Me at the Zoo, which was published on April 23, 2005, had been seen over 83 million times.
Karim created many of the basic components of PayPal's real-time anti-internet-fraud system while working there, where he met fellow YouTube co-founders Steven Chen and Chad Hurley. Karim was born in Merseburg, East Germany, on October 28, 1979, to a Bangladeshi father and a German mother. In 1992, Karim and his family relocated to Saint Paul, Minnesota.
