Greg Buckner Biography

Greg Buckner begins his first season as a player development coach with the Houston Rockets. Buckner joins the Rockets following a stellar 10-year NBA career. Buckner averaged 5.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 570 career games (117 starts) with the Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Memphis Grizzlies after being selected by Dallas in the second round (53rd overall) in the 1998 NBA Draft. Buckner was also recognized as a superb defensive player during his career. Six of his ten NBA seasons saw his clubs make the playoffs. In 38 career postseason games, he averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. Buckner was considered as one of the best players in Clemson history as a freshman. He was the first Tiger in history to lead his team in scoring for four consecutive years (1994-98), and he led Clemson to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Buckner started all 122 games of his career and never missed a game, breaking the school record for consecutive starts. He ended his career with 1,754 points, becoming the third Tiger player to have at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 200 assists. Buckner, who was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005, is the only Tiger to have ever won the ACC Rookie of the Year honor (1994-95). Buckner, who was born on September 16, 1976, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, began his NBA career with the Grand Rapids Hoops of the Continental Basketball Association (1998-99).
