Eric McElvenny Biography

Eric McElvenny combines his experience as a U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer and Purple Heart recipient with his role as elite endurance athlete and motivational speaker to show how perseverance works. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2006 Eric served three deployments until he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan which caused the loss of his right leg below the knee and started his journey of transformation.

Eric dedicated himself to competitive triathlon after he decided not to let his injury determine his future. The eight full Ironman races he completed included his personal best of 10:20 and he participated in the Ironman World Championship in Kona during 2013. He competed for Team USA at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2020 before starting his training for Paris 2024.

Eric now lives with his wife Rachel and their three children in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where he teaches resilience and leadership to others. Through his energetic presentations he teaches people the methods which helped him overcome his challenges. His talks including Harnessing Resilience in the Face of Change and Team Is the Theme provide specific methods for handling disruptions while developing determination and creating unified teams.
