Eric McElvenny combines his experience as a U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer and Purple Heart recipient with his role as elite endurance athlete and motivational speaker to show how perseverance works. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2006 Eric served three deployments until he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan which caused the loss of his right leg below the knee and started his journey of transformation.
Eric dedicated himself to competitive triathlon after he decided not to let his injury determine his future. The eight full Ironman races he completed included his personal best of 10:20 and he participated in the Ironman World Championship in Kona during 2013. He competed for Team USA at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2020 before starting his training for Paris 2024.
