Eric Goode Biography

Eric Goode is an American entrepreneur and environmentalist whose work has been featured on 60 Minutes, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Charlie Rose, and Racing Extinction, a full documentary film. He founded the Turtle Conservancy, a global conservation organization whose purpose is to conserve and safeguard natural ecosystems, with an emphasis on turtles and tortoises, other species, and their habitats, for the benefit of mankind and the biological variety of the Earth. He also founded the Turtle Ball, an annual fundraising event that brings together artists, celebrities, philanthropists, and conservationists for a fun-filled evening to raise awareness of the global turtle extinction issue. Among other things, Goode and the Turtle Conservancy built South Africa's first nature park dedicated to the conservation of the Critically Endangered Geometric Tortoise. He helped establish the Sinaloan Nature Preserve to conserve the Goode's Thornscrub Tortoise, which was recently named after Goode (Gopherus evgoodei) in honor of his enthusiasm for the planet's tiny neglected animals. Goode has written and co-written over 20 scholarly and popular articles on topics ranging from the predicament of the world's rarest tortoise, the Ploughshare in Madagascar, to the reproductive biology of turtles, to Pacific Pond Turtles in his own backyard in California. Goode presently serves on the boards of Rainforest Trust, the Chelonian Research Institute, the Turtle Conservation Fund, and the Global Wildlife Conservation advisory council, as well as being a member of the Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group. Tiger King, a seven-episode docuseries filmed and produced by Goode about people who keep and raise lions, tigers, and other large animals, debuted on Netflix in 2020. The show immediately rose to prominence as one of the most popular on the Netflix platform.
