Eric Garcetti is a highly esteemed American politician and diplomat. A fourth-generation Angeleno and Democrat, he served as the 42nd mayor of Los Angeles from 2013 to 2022, becoming the city's first elected Jewish mayor and one of its youngest. He served 12 years on the Los Angeles City Council, including six as president. Garcetti holds a B.A. and M.A. from Columbia University, studied as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and the London School of Economics, and taught at USC and Occidental College. He also served as a U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer. Key mayoral initiatives included raising the minimum wage to $15, expanding infrastructure, enacting green policies, and addressing homelessness and COVID-19. From 2023 to 2025, he was U.S. Ambassador to India. As of 2026, he works in global climate diplomacy with groups such as C40 Cities.
