Emily Rothman Biography

Emily F. Rothman has performed several research studies with adolescent volunteers to determine what they see, when they see it, why they see it, and how it affects them. She also co-created and co-taught the first pornography course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as collaborated with the Boston Public Health Commission to develop a pornography literacy curriculum for teens. Rothman has conducted many federally supported research studies financed by the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Justice, and different organizations in an effort to understand the causes and effects of teenage dating violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. She also created and chaired the Society for Behavioral Medicine's Violence and Trauma special interest group, wrote a report on batterer intervention programs for the World Health Organization, and was named to the Massachusetts Governor's Council on Sexual and Domestic Violence.
