Edward C. Byers Jr. is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL who received the Medal of Honor on February 29, 2016, for his bravery during a 2012 hostage rescue mission in Afghanistan. As a SEAL Team Six member, Byers risked his life to save Dr. Dilip Joseph from Taliban captors, displaying extraordinary courage under fire.

Over his 21-year career, he completed 11 deployments, including nine combat tours, earning four Bronze Stars with valor, two Purple Hearts, and other awards. Enlisting in 1998 as a hospital corpsman, he became a SEAL in 2002 and retired as a Master Chief in 2019.
