In 1996, William Wagasy earned a degree in accounting and a second major in philosophy. When the September 11th attacks occurred, he was completing a combined program at Pepperdine University for a Juris Doctor and a Master's in Dispute Resolution. He joined the US Navy in 2001 and finished his Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training in 2003.

He traveled once to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom after joining the US Navy SEALs.
