EbonyJanice Moore Biography

Ebony Janice Moore is a womanist academic, author, and community organizer who focuses on black women's body ownership as a social justice problem, black women's access to ease, joy, and play, and Hip Hop as a tool for sociopolitical and spiritual/religious movement building. She has developed a leadership development curriculum for high school-aged girls in Kenya and South Africa, as well as coding for teenagers in Decatur, Georgia, exposing them to culture, STEM programs, and the arts. She also endorses the education costs of several female students at PACE High School in Nyahururu, Kenya. Her research focuses on issues of blackness, womanhood, and spirituality, particularly black women's use of spirit, conjure, and/or the supernatural as a tool for social justice, as well as the pluralism of Black Christianity and the interconnectedness of the Southern Black Christian experience with Indigenous African religions and African Spirituality. She is a Hip Hop Scholar and the host of Rap Theology, a hip-hop and womanism podcast. She recently presented an original creative piece on The Rebellion at Igbo Landing at The Public Theater in New York City, and she is presently working on a sequel to that play, which will focus on the women who are frequently forgotten in the conflict. Moore holds a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology and political science, as well as a master's degree in social change with a focus on spiritual leadership, feminist theology, and racial justice. She is the founder of Black Girl Mixtape, a multi-platform safe think-space that promotes black women's intellectual authority through a lecture series, a podcast, and an online learning institute run by black women intellectuals.
