Dr. Mark Plotkin is a famous ethnobotanist who has spent the last 30 years studying traditional indigenous plant use with elder shamans (traditional healers) in Central and South America. Dr.
Plotkin worked primarily with the Trio Indians of southern Suriname, a small rainforest country in northeastern South America, as an ethnobotanist (a scientist who studies how and why societies have come to use plants for various purposes), but he has also worked with elder shamans from Mexico to Brazil.
