On June 19, 1986, two days after being picked by the Boston Celtics, the University of Maryland basketball player died as a result of a heroin overdose. On December 4, 1990, the Bias family experienced yet another tragedy when their second son, Jay, was slain in a drive-by shooting at a nearby mall. Dr.
Bias utilizes the deaths of her two boys to inspire and motivate both children and adults. She carries with her a Message of Hope. This message addresses future hope, survival skills for the next century, adversity, humanity, loving oneself, and laying strong foundations.
