Denis Richard McDonough, born on December 2, 1969, is an American government official who was the eleventh United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Joe Biden, a role he has held since 2021. McDonough's experience in the government sector spans several years. He previously served in the Obama administration, holding various key positions.
Specifically, he served as the chief of staff at the National Security Council between 2009 and 2010 and then went on to serve as the Deputy National Security Advisor from 2010 to 2013. Following this, McDonough held the role of White House chief of staff for the entirety of President Barack Obama's second term, from 2013 to 2017.
