Deborah Feldman was born and raised in the Hasidic community of Satmar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her marriage was arranged at the age of 17, and her son was born two years later. At the age of 25 she published the New York Times Bestselling memoir, UNORTHODOX: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots (Simon and Schuster,2012) and two years later she followed up with EXODUS, a memoir of post-religious alienation and identity (Blue Rider Press,2014.) Her work has been translated into Hebrew (Kinneret) Polish (Poradnia K.) and German (Secession Verlag) with Dutch and Italian versions coming soon.
Deborah currently lives in Berlin, Germany with her twelve-year-old son. She writes in German, which is closer to her first language, Yiddish, and her first novel will be published by Secession Verlag in Germany in Autumn of 2018.
