Danny Wuerffel is a philanthropist and retired football player. He was the recipient of the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 1996 when he played for the University of Florida.Wuerffel is the son of an Air Force chaplain and grew up in the Destin area. At Fort Walton Beach High School he won the Florida state football championship.

While in college Wuerffel played quarterback for the Florida Gators under Steve Spurrier. His teams won 4 consecutive Southeastern Conference (SEC) titles between 1993 and 1996.
