Cowboy Troy Biography

Known by his stage name Cowboy Troy, American musician Troy Lee Coleman III is a member of the MuzikMafia who performs country rap. He was born on December 18, 1970. MuzikMafia is an association of country music singer-songwriters whose membership also includes Gretchen Wilson, James Otto and Big & Rich. He has released one EP, two releases on Warner Bros Records and four studio albums and charted twice on the Billboard country singles charts. In the Dallas Independent School District, Troy attended and graduated from Skyline High School. He later enrolled and received a bachelors degree at the University of Texas in Austin. He worked as the manager of a Dallas area Foot Locker before his career as a singer eventually kicked off. He was given the name Cowboy Troy in college, after a friend used the name to differentiate the cowboy-hat-wearing Coleman from his other friends named Troy. Troy released Loco Motive, his first major-label solo album through the RAYBAW records production label and the Warner Music Group distribution label on May 17, 2005. The album debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. The first single, “I Play Chicken with the Train,” peaked at No. 48 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart on April 9, 2005 and was also the No. 1 Country download at the iTunes Music Store on April 15, 2005. As a Chevrolet promotion, Troy, Big & Rich and Wilson, released “Our America” as a free, limited time download on July 1, 2005. They also performed this song live on July 4, 2005 at the Boston Pops concert. “Our America” combines spoken word of parts of the Declaration of independence, Pledge of Allegiance, U.S. Constitution, and Martin Luther King, Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech. The song peaked at No. 44 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, and surfaces as a bonus track on both Wilson's All Jacked Up and Big & Rich's Comin' to Your City albums. Cowboy Troy released a duet with Sarah Buxton titled “If You Don't Wanna Love Me.” The single failed to chart on the Billboard charts as did the follow-up, My Last Yee Haw. After his alma mater (Texas) won the national championship in football, a promotional single titled Hook 'Em Horns, was released on February 14, 2006. Cowboy Troy co-hosted with Jewel, for the fifth season of Nashville Star on the USA Network and CMT Canada. In 2006, at the March 13 episode of WWE's RAW in Beaumont, Texas, Troy made a special appearance. He walked to the announcer's table to help announce the match between superstars Goldust and Edge, and his entrance music was My Last Yee Haw. Troy was spotted in the crowd as seen on the April 30 episode of WWE's Raw, broadcast from Nashville. The announcers mentioned him, pointing out his duties hosting Nashville Star. He went on to release Black in the Saddle in 2007. Troy parted ways with Warner Bros. Nashville in 2008 and released Demolition Mission: Studio Blue Sessions in 2009. Cowboy Troy also performed at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a black conservative, a member of the Republican Party and supported Sen. John McCain in the 2008 U.S. presidential election. His wife’s name is Laura and they have been married for five years with triplets named - Reece Jacob, John Reagan and Riley Joseph.
