Following her graduation from Stanford Law School, Christy Haubegger launched Latina magazine in 1996. Haubegger dreamt up and produced a business strategy for a pioneering magazine that would feature fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and empowerment for Hispanic women in a business class there. She pursued her magazine concept after earning her legal degree.
She eventually teamed up with Essence Communications, which became a big Latina investor. In 1996, the magazine started as a quarterly, with Jennifer Lopez, a budding celebrity, on the cover.
