Christina Fialho is the Co-Founder/Executive Director of Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC). She is an attorney and an internationally recognized social entrepreneur who is leading a new movement to end the isolation and abuse of people in U.S. immigration detention. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Southern California, the Civil Justice Strategies Task Force of the California Bar Association, and the Steering Committee of the Detention Watch Network.

Christina has led numerous community visits to immigration detention facilities through CIVIC and has exposed the corruption and abuses inside these primarily for-profit prisons that hold asylum seekers, victims of human trafficking, and other immigrants. In July 2013, Christina sparked widespread debate over the issue of immigration detention when she wrote a blog for the Huffington Post, “Who Is Overseeing Immigration Detention?”. The L.A. Times reported that the U.S. government suspended CIVIC's visitation programs and blacklisted volunteers in response to Christina's blog. Nevertheless, CIVIC's affiliated programs have grown to over 30 detention facilities in 15 states.
