Bruno Le Maire is a French politician, writer, and former diplomat. A graduate of the École Normale Supérieure, Sciences Po, and ENA, he began his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as an advisor to Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. He served as Secretary of State for European Affairs (2008–2009) and Minister of Agriculture (2009–2012) under President Nicolas Sarkozy. Elected to the National Assembly for Eure, he initially belonged to the center-right UMP/LR before joining Emmanuel Macron’s La République En Marche! in 2017. As Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty (2017–2024), he was one of France’s longest-serving finance ministers, managing the response to COVID-19, leading economic reforms, and advancing European integration and industrial policy. In October 2025, he briefly served as Minister of the Armed Forces. He is also an acclaimed author of novels and political essays.
