Bob Woodruff is an American television journalist and correspondent for ABC News since 1996. Hailing from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, he graduated from Colgate University and the University of Michigan Law School. Initially a lawyer, Woodruff shifted to journalism, working as a translator for CBS News during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, then joining ABC News after stints at local stations.
He co-anchored ABC World News Tonight with Elizabeth Vargas in 2005. On January 29, 2006, while reporting in Iraq, he was severely injured by a roadside bomb, sustaining a traumatic brain injury that required a 36-day coma and extensive recovery.
