He graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and went on to work for WVBR, a radio station in Ithaca, New York, as a sports anchor and reporter.

He then worked as the Sports Director at WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York, for the next two years. He departed WBNG in 1989 to work as a sports anchor for WSTM-TV in Syracuse. He only stayed at this station for a year before joining the Sports News Network in 1990.
