Benny Jacobs-Schwartz, a California native, has had an instinctive affinity for nature since he was a child. His fascination with the natural environment stretches back to his childhood. During his high school summers, he participated in multi-week adventure programs, which broadened his outdoor experiences quickly. He was frequently spotted exploring vast open places, wading through streams and creeks, and listening to trees blowing in the breeze when he was younger. Continuing on this path, he fell in love with birds in Costa Rica during a college study abroad program in 2011. Jacobs-Schwartz has worked as an avian field scientist, international bird guide, land keeper, and wildlife photographer since graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2013. He has had the opportunity to work in a number of locales, including Central America, Yosemite, Trinidad & Tobago, Ecuador, and coastal Alaska, as a result of this employment. A Field Guide to Birds of UC Santa Cruz, which he self-published, has a selection of his photographs. Jacobs-Schwartz enjoys a range of interests, including surfing, mountain biking, rock climbing, yoga, organizing outdoor trips for youngsters, and directing photography workshops, when she is not pouring through complex field guides and pursuing rare bird sightings.
