Born and raised in New York City, Benjamin Harold Benh Zeitlin is an animator well known for directing the 2012 film Beasts of the Southern Wild. He’s also a composer and film maker who graduated from Wesleyan University.
The Court 13 independent collection of filmmakers was co-founded by him in 2004 and the name was inspired by a neglected squash court in Wesleyan University that he and his friends once used as a filming location. Zeitlin and Eliza his younger sister moved to New Orleans while he was shooting Glory at Sea, his first film in 2008.
