Alan Lightman is an American physicist, novelist, essayist, and educator known for blending science with humanistic themes. A theoretical physicist with a PhD from Caltech, he has made contributions to astrophysics, including work on relativistic plasmas and black holes.
He is a professor of the practice of the humanities at MIT, where he was the first to hold dual appointments in science and humanities. His bestselling novel āEinsteinās Dreamsā (1992) imagines Einsteinās thoughts on time, translated into over 30 languages.
