In Charlottesville, Virginia, Zyahna Bryant works on problems related to racial justice. At Bernie Sanders' budget Town Hall in Charlottesville in the spring of 2015, Zyahna participated on a panel with local activists and Sanders to promote money for grants and public education.

Later that autumn, Zyahna founded the Black Student Union and started running it; she is now in her third year of leadership. Zyahna petitioned the Charlottesville City Council in the spring of 2016 to have the Lee Statue taken down and the park's previous name, Lee Park, changed. The Charlottesville City Council decided to take down the statues in 2017.
