The President and Founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy is Zuhdi Jasser, M.D. (AIFD). After the 9/11 attacks on the United States, a devoted Muslim named Dr. Jasser established AIFD in an effort to provide American Muslims a voice in support of the protection of the liberties and freedoms guaranteed by the United States Constitution via the separation of church and state. Dr. Jasser is a first-generation American Muslim whose parents left Syria's oppressive Baath regime in the middle of the 1960s in search of freedom in the United States. He is leading the fight against the Muslim Brotherhood's efforts to control organized Islam in America through their network of American mosques and Islamist organizations. The AIFD aims to combat political Islam, which is the philosophy behind militant Islamists. The Muslim Liberty Project (MLP) and participation in the recently established American Islamic Leadership Coalition are two of AIFD's current hobbies (AILC). The Muslim Liberty Project aims to immunize young Muslim adults against the political Islamist danger by instilling the values of liberty in them. In March 2011, the initiative successfully gathered its first cohort of Muslim youth. In sharp contrast to the local and international network of Islamist groups, the AILC is a broad-based collaboration of various Muslim organizations.
