American broadcast journalist and scientist Zoey Tur is well known for creating one of the first contemporary news helicopters that were utilized for live news reporting. The first transgender reporter to appear on national television was Tur.
Together with fellow reporter and ex-wife Marika Gerrard, Los Angeles News Service was founded by Tur, a broadcast reporter who later became a commercial pilot with 10,000 hours of flight time. Their news service was the first to broadcast a high-speed police chase and the first to use an AStar helicopter to cover live breaking news in a major city.
