Zella Day Biography

Modern pop artist Zella Day combines a dash of Western Bohemian style. Her parents managed a café and art gallery in a tiny mountain hamlet close to Phoenix, where she was reared, and the community's artistic patrons encouraged her musical talents. She began playing the guitar at the age of 9, and within a few years, she had written her first songs, which had been influenced by the legendary singer/songwriter recordings in her parents' collection as well as her untamed surroundings. Day originally attracted attention when her 2012 acoustic rendition of Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes started to gain popularity online. She soon developed a richer, more pop-oriented style, which some observers likened to Lana Del Rey sounding happy. In April 2014, she released her debut song, Sweet Ophelia/1965, and in October of the same year, California indie B3SCI Records published her self-titled debut EP.
