In order for Zeljko Ivanek's father to complete his Ph.D. studies in electrical engineering at Stanford University, his family migrated to the US in 1960.
After being accepted to The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he continued to develop his love for acting and spent the summers of 1978–1980 perfecting his stage presence in productions including Hay Fever and The Front Page at the Williamstown Theater Festival.
