Zaila Avant-garde (born February 9, 2007) is a juggler, basketball player, and speller from the United States. She was awarded the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2021. She is the very 1st African-American finalist and the 2nd Black winner, following Jamaica's Jody-Anne Maxwell. Avant-garde, the daughter of Jawara Spacetime, was born on February 9, 2007 in Harvey, Louisiana.

He picked her surname as a tribute to John Coltrane.Her role models include Malala Yousafzai, Coco Guaff, and, Serena Williams.
