At Columbia University, Zaheer Ali worked as a senior researcher and one of the project supervisors for the Malcolm X Project (MXP). He oversaw the project and served as associate editor of The Autobiography of Malcolm X (2004)'s online annotated multimedia edition. Subsequently, he worked as a lead researcher on Marable's thorough biography Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention.
In addition to American history from the American Revolution to the present, he has taught courses on Malcolm X, Islam and Black America, and American history from Columbia University to New York University.
