The Mirage III supersonic fighter jet was Yves Rossy's professional high point after a technical apprenticeship and engineering degree. He piloted antique aircraft including the Hunter and the Venom, one of England's first jet fighters, while also flying the plane for 17 years. He currently works as a Swiss International Air Lines pilot on sabbatical leave and spends all of his free time working on his hobby. Others may choose to venture off the usual path, but Yves Rossy does not. He had the concept to use smaller jet engines to propel a wing. The first jet engine was lit at Saas-Fee, Switzerland, in March 2003, and it was then placed in an airplane. The engines, which were first fastened to an inflatable wing, were provided by the German business Jet-Cat. This approach fell short due to a lack of discipline. A rigid deployable carbon-kevlar wing created by Yves Rossy in 2004 was produced by ACT Composites.
